Connecticut Overview

Connecticut (IPA: /kn.t.kt/) is a state located in the New England region of the northeastern United States of America. Southwestern Connecticut is part of the New York metropolitan area.

The original European settlers in 1614 were Dutch, but by 1636, Connecticut became a British colony. Connecticut was one of the Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. Residents of Connecticut are sometimes referred to as Connecticutians, Nutmeggers or Yankees.

Connecticut has the highest per capita income in the country, and ranks 1st in median household income.[4] It is the richest state in the United States.[5]

Connecticut is the 29th most populous state and 48th state for largest area, making it the 4th most densely populated state.[2]
